In this video, I explain the philanthropic landscape in NZ, introduce the different kinds of funders, and offer ways to think about what type of funding might suit you best.

Center for Strategic Impact Funding Guide includes a great wrap up on the funding sector, including information on different funders, and a checklist for funding applications.
If you’re more interested in an academic perspective, take a look at the Survey of Charitable Giving in New Zealand by Amy Cruickshank, which provides analysis about trends in charitable giving, the characteristics of givers, and charity incomes.
This Philanthropy NZ Survey Report provides a pulse check of philanthropic and grant funding. It’s from 2023 and considers changes to funding levels and expectations in light of Covid-19. It’s a nice insight into how funders are thinking.
This report is quite old (2020!), but still provides a good baseline of information on the sector The New Zealand Support Report: The current state and significance of giving in New Zealand and the outlook for recipients.
